Sacred Heart School welcomed Nebraska First Lady Suzanne Pillen for a special morning focused on reading, learning, and the joy that fills a classroom when students get to share their school with a guest.
Mrs. Pillen toured Sacred Heart School, part of the CUES School System, and spent time reading with students. Her visit highlighted the importance of early literacy, and the role community leaders, families, teachers, and supporters all play in helping children build a strong foundation for success.
Students were excited to welcome the First Lady into their classrooms and share in a meaningful reading experience. For Sacred Heart, moments like this reinforce the daily work happening across the school — helping students grow in confidence, curiosity, and love of learning.
“We are grateful to First Lady Suzanne Pillen for spending time with our students,” said Fr. David M. Korth, President of the CUES School System. “Reading with students is a simple but powerful way to celebrate learning and remind children that their education matters to the wider community.”
Mike Jensen, Principal of Sacred Heart School, said the visit was a special moment for students and staff.
“Our students love guest readers, and they rise to the occasion,” Jensen said. “This visit affirmed the hard work happening in our classrooms every day and gave our students another reason to feel proud of their school.”
Sacred Heart School is one of three schools in the CUES School System, which provides faith-based, tuition-free education and support services for students and families in Omaha.
